primary phloem

*Phloem derived from the procambium in the primary plant body. In nonwoody plants the primary phloem, consisting of the *protophloem and *metaphloem , is the only food-conducting tissue, whereas in mature plants exhibiting secondary growth this function is usually performed by the *secondary phloem.
