Taphrinales

An order of the *Hemiascomycetes containing many plant parasites, with most of the 105 species being placed in the genus Taphrina. There are three other genera. These fungi commonly induce hyperplasia, as in peach leaf curl, caused by T. deformans, and witches' broom of birch, caused by T. betulina. The Taphrinales form a limited dikaryotic mycelium that gives rise to asci. The ascospores reproduce asexually by budding before giving rise again to hyphae.
