Hemiascomycetes

A class of the *Ascomycotina containing ascomycetes that do not develop ascocarps. It contains about 330 species in some 60 genera. Such fungi are unicellular or produce a poorly developed mycelium. The Hemiascomycetes contains the orders *Endomycetales , *Taphrinales , and Protomycetales. In some classifications these fungi are considered a subclass, Hemiascomycetidae of the class Ascomycetes.
