outbreeding

The production of offspring by the fusion of distantly related gametes. The consequences of outbreeding are opposite to those of *inbreeding and mechanisms have been developed by the majority of plants to promote it. The  main  outbreeding  mechanisms  are *incompatibility factors , heteromorphism (e.g. *heterostyly ), *protogyny , *protandry , and *dioecism.
