protogyny

The maturation of the female reproductive organs before those of the male. For example, in the Rosaceae and Cruciferae the stigma becomes receptive before the anthers in the same flower release their pollen. Protogyny is contrary to the normal centripetal development of the floral parts and is not so frequently encountered as *protandry. See dichogamy.
