rhizomorph

A tough cordlike mass of fused hyphae that acts to carry a fungus from one favourable location to another, across unsuitable substrates. Rhizomorphs are seen, for example, in the tree parasite Armillaria mellea (the boot-lace or honey fungus) and the dry-rot fungus Serpula lacrymans.
