red-and-yellow forest soil
|
A type of zonal acid * soil (a * pedalfer ) formed in wet subtropical regions. Leaching results in the accumulation of salts in the Β horizon. The red colour is due to iron oxides in the A horizon though if the soil is sandy, it tends to be yellow. Such soils contain little humus and are soon exhausted of nutrients when cultivated. They can be easily eroded.
