pedalfer

A *soil in which the soluble lime has been leached from the surface layers by heavy persistent rain. It is thus acid and the rate of decomposition of soil litter is consequently slow. Iron and aluminium hydroxides are abundant. Pedalfers are one of the two main types of zonal soils (compare pedocal ) and include brown earths, podsols, and tundra soils.
