Phallales

An order of the *Gasteromycetes containing the stinkhorns. There are about 70 species in some 21 genera. When mature the basidiocarp wall of the stinkhorn is broken open by an expanding stalk, which rapidly grows carrying the foul-smelling spores at its tip. A common species is Phallus impudicus.
