nectary

A sugar-secreting *gland. Nectaries are usually present at the base of a flower, sometimes in a spur, to attract pollinators. Often scents are also secreted by the nectary as additional attractants. Nectaries may also be extrafloral, for example the gland spines of certain cacti. Here they may serve to attract seed dispersal agents, such as ants.
