irritability

(sensitivity) Response by a living organism to external stimuli. In plants, the responses often take the form of various types of movements caused by the bending of the growing region. In addition, certain aquatic microorganisms and some motile gametes exhibit irritability by changing their physical position. See tropism , nastic movements , taxis.
