Hymenomycetes

A class of the *Basidiomycotina containing those basidiomycetes with a well developed basidiocarp and basidiospores that are forcibly discharged. It contains over 5000 species in some 675 genera. It is divided into two subclasses: the Phragmobasidiomycetidae (or Heterobasidiomycetidae), which have septate basidia; and the Holobasidiomycetidae (or Homobasidiomycetidae), with aseptate basidia. The former includes the order *Tremellales and the latter includes the orders *Aphyllophorales and *Agaricales.
