glucose 1-phosphate

A phosphorylated derivative of glucose, formed by isomerization from glucose 6-phosphate. Glucose 1-phosphate is an intermediate in the synthesis of UDP-glucose, from which starch and cellulose are formed. It is also the predominant breakdown product of starch and cellulose.
