Fehling's solution

A mixture of two solutions used to detect the presence of reducing sugars and aldehydes in solution. Fehling's A, which is a copper(II) sulphate solution, is added to the test solution followed by an equal amount of Fehling's B (a mixture of sodium potassium tartrate and sodium hydroxide solutions). On boiling, a brick red precipitate of copper(I) oxide indicates a positive result.
