endogenous rhythms

Sequential physical or biochemical processes that occur in a plant or plant part in response to internal stimuli. An example is the apparently autonomic component of the nyctinastic movements of certain plants, the leaflets of which continue to follow a periodic folding and unfolding sequence even if kept in continuous darkness. See also circadian rhythm , biological clock .
