conjugated protein

A protein that contains other components besides polypeptide chains. Conjugated proteins are classified according to the nature of the nonpeptide portion of the molecule. Glycoproteins are found in plant and bacterial cell walls, while cell and organelle membranes contain lipoproteins. Many enzymes contain metal ions and some dehydrogenases are *flavoproteins. Ribosomes and viruses are nucleoproteins.
