chronistics

The study of the time taken for evolutionary events to occur. If phy-logenetic trees are drawn with the vertical axis representing the time scale then a diagram is obtained showing the chronistic relationship between organisms. Organisms that, from fossil evidence, appear to have evolved rapidly are termed tachytelic while those that appear to have changed slowly are termed bradytelic. Horotelic is used of organisms showing moderate rates of evolution.
