chlorazol black

A temporary acid stain that colours walls grey or black and is especially suitable for demonstrating pitting. It is also used for chromosome counts, in which case the tissue is first fixed in acetic acid. After staining, a drop of acetocarmine is added and the chromosomes stain a deep reddish-black colour. The stain gives a clear-cut picture and is therefore useful for photomicrography.
