chlamydospore

A thick-walled resting spore formed by certain fungi. The term refers both to thickened segments of hyphae (gemmae), as found in the Saprolegniaceae and Mucoraceae, and to the dikaryotic brand spores of the Ustilaginales that develop in sori on infected plants.
