Helotiales

(cup fungi) An order of the *Discomycetes containing some 1750 species in about 225 genera. Its members are similar to the *Pezizales except that the asci lack an operculum. Most are saprobes but some are plant parasites, e.g. Sclerotinia, which causes brown rot of stored fruit. See also Lecanorales.
