Cryptophyta

A division of unicellular flagellate *algae that are dorsoventrally flattened and have an oblique furrow. Cryptophytes contain green, blue, and red pigments and store food as starch in a pyrenoid outside the plastid.  Reproduction is by longitudinal fission and sexual reproduction does not occur.
