zeatin

(6-(4-hydroxy-3-methyl but-2-enyl)aminopurine) The first plant growth substance of the *cytokinin type to be isolated from plant tissues. It was obtained from the kernels of sweet corn (Zea mays) hence its name. Subsequently other cytokinins similar in structure to zeatin (i.e. an adenine molecule substituted with an isoprenoid derivative) have been isolated. Some of these are found as minor bases in transfer RNA molecules (see IPA).
