ultraviolet microscope

A microscope that uses ultraviolet radiation to illuminate the specimen and form the image. This increases the resolution because ultraviolet radiation has much shorter wavelengths (about 300 nm) than visible light, and resolution increases as wavelength decreases. Ultraviolet microscopy is difficult and complex and is rarely used since the development of the electron microscope.
