1.   A  type  of  perennating   bud formed  by  certain  aquatic  plants,   e.g. frogbit (Hydrocharis morsusranae),   that is shed from the plant and lies dormant on   the   pond   or   river   bed   until   the spring.
2. Any vegetative shoot or sucker.
