self pollination

The transfer of pollen from the anthers to the stigma of the same flower, or to a flower on the same plant. This is achieved by homogamy and appropriate positioning of the reproductive parts so that pollen can be transferred, usually by insects, gravity, contact, or rain splash. Self pollination does not necessarily preclude *cross pollination except in cleistogamous plants.
