schizocarp

A dry fruit that is derived from two or more one-seeded carpels that divide into one-seeded units at maturity. The one-seeded units may be achenes, berries, follicles, mericarps, nutlets, or samaras. This form of fruit is intermediate between the dehiscent and indehiscent types. See also cremocarp.
