scab

Any plant disease having conspicuous raised scablike lesions that develop as a result of the formation of cork layers. The host response to the disease is similar to that found in *canker but occurs to a lesser degree. Scab diseases are very varied. Examples include common scab of potatoes caused by the bacterium Streptomyces scabies and apple scab caused by the fungus Venturia inaequalis.
