ring-porous wood

Secondary xylem in which there is marked seasonal variation in tracheary-element diameter with wider elements being formed in spring and early summer and narrower elements being formed later in the year. Growth rings are distinct in such wood, e.g. that of pedunculate oak, Quercus robur. Compare diffuse-porous wood.
