ribose

An aldopentose sugar. It is a component of nucleotides (e.g. AMP, ATP), dinucleotides (e.g. NAD, FAD), and ribonucleic acid (RNA). Unlike *deoxyribose (C₅H₁₀O₄), the empirical formula of ribose (C₅H₁₀O₅) is that of a typical five-carbon monosaccharide.
