reciprocal cross

A cross in which the source of the male and female gametes is reversed. Thus in the cross yellow peas x green peas, the pollen would originate from the yellow-seeded parent in one cross, then from the green-seeded parent in the reciprocal cross. A reciprocal cross should determine whether there are any maternal (or paternal) factors influencing the inheritance of the characteristic.
