position effect

1. A modification in the normal expression of a gene due to a change in its position on the chromosome following an inversion. 2. The determination of the appearance of  an  organism  according  to  whether two nonallelic mutations of a single gene are in the *cis arrangement or the *trans arrangement. The position effect is the basis of the *cis-trans test.
