population dynamics

The study of the changes in the numbers of individuals in a population and the attempted correlation of these with physical or chemical changes in the environment, biotic factors, or the genetical make up of the population. Such studies are carried out over a number of years as there may be seasonal and/or long-term changes. Most   studies  of  plant   population   dynamics have been carried out on annuals rather than perennials. Factors that have been investigated include seed size, dormancy, thickness of seed coat, method of seed dispersal, leaf size, and stem height.
