plumule

The embryonic shoot, derived from the *epicotyl. In dicotyledons the plumule is situated between the cotyledons. If germination is epigeal the plumule is protected during its passage to the soil surface by the cotyledons. If germination is hypogeal the elongating plumule has a hooked tip.
