megaspore

(macrospore) The larger of the two types of haploid spores formed after meiosis in  *heterosporous species and usually designated female. It is immobile and contains food reserves for the gametophyte. In angiosperms, the cell that gives rise to the nuclei of the *embryo sac is termed a megaspore, though it is usually smaller than a pollen grain (*microspore ).
