Loculoascomycetes

A class of the *Ascomycotina in which the asci are two-walled (bitunicate) and are contained in perithecia enclosed in a stroma. It includes some 530 genera and over 2000 species, some of which are important plant parasites, e.g. Venturia inaequalis, which causes apple scab.
