Lignosae

In John Hutchinson's system of classification, a subgroup of the dicotyledons into which the predominantly woody families are placed. The predominantly herbaceous plants are placed in the Herbaceae. The division is considered unnatural by most taxonomists as it separates certain families generally thought of as closely related, e.g. the woody Verbenaceae from the herbaceous Labiatae.
