(visible radiation) Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths ranging from roughly 400 nm (extreme violet) to 770 nm (extreme red). Light from the sun provides the energy to fuel the photosynthetic fixation of carbon dioxide by green plants and is thus the basis of life on earth.
