leptosporangium

A type of *sporangium that is derived from one initial cell. It is typical of ferns of the order Filicales (the leptosporangiate ferns). The wall of a leptosporangium is usually only one cell thick and does not contain tissue derived from the archesporium. Compare eusporangium.
