isoelectric point

The pH value of a medium that results in a molecule having no net electric charge. At the isoelectric point the molecules will coalesce and precipitate, because there is no repulsion between them. A mixture of amino acids or proteins may be separated into its components by varying the pH, as different molecules have different isoelectric points.
