The influence of a differentiated cell on an adjacent undifferentiated cell such that it brings about similar differentiation in the adjacent cell. The process is seen when vascular tissues are cut. The severed ends of the vascular bundles induce differentiation in adjacent pith cells and thus reestablish a connection.
