An apparatus that is designed to contain, control, and monitor a biological process and collect the product of that process. For example, alcoholic fermentation, in which alcohol is produced by yeast cells, can be carried out on an industrial scale in a suitably designed fermenter. Industrial fermenters are used in brewing, effluent disposal, yeast production for bakeries, and in the production of important organic substances such as antibiotics, amino acids, single-cell protein, etc.
