A type of dissected * siphonostele in which the vascular tissue (as viewed in transverse section) is divided into a number of amphicribal vascular bundles called * meristeles. These are separated by parenchymatous areas, which are usually associated with large closely placed leaf gaps. Dictyosteles are typical of many ferns, e.g. Dryopteris, and are essentially similar to * solenosteles, except that the amphiphloic cylinder of the solenostele is reduced to a meshwork by the occurrence of numerous overlapping leaf gaps. See also eustele.
