decurrent

Describing leaf bases that extend down the stem beyond their point of insertion, forming a wing on the stem. The leaves of the common mullein (Verbascum thapsus) are examples. The term is also used of the gills of basidio-mycete fungi that run down the stem, as seen, for example, in the genus Clitocybe.
