(ubiquinone) A lipid-soluble electron-carrying coenzyme that participates in the transport of electrons from NAD to oxygen in the *respiratory chain. Itrespiratory chain is a reversibly reducible quinone. Plastoquinone, a closely related compound, performs a similar function but in photosynthetic electron transport.
