cell plate

An opaque colloidal layer established by membrane-bound cavities in the equatorial region of the *spindle at the *telophase stage of mitosis. It separates the cytoplasm into two daughter protoplasts, each with a nucleus. Pectic substances within the vesicles contribute to the formation of a *middle lamella between the newly formed cells.
