A class of the * Deuteromycotina containing the imperfect yeasts. It includes about 200 species in some 20 genera and is divided into the Cryptococcales, which reproduce by budding and do not form ballistospores; and the Sporobolomycetales, which reproduce by budding and ballistospores. Most of the Cryptococcales are imperfect states of the * Endomycetales . The order includes the parasitic genus Candida, which causes thrush in man. The Sporobolomycetales (the mirror or shadow yeasts) are imperfect states of basidiomycetes, such as the Tremellales. Many (e.g. Sporobolomyces and Tilletiopsis) are found as epiphytes on leaves.
