autapomorphy

Any  derived  character state (see apomorphy ) only possessed by members    of    one    particular    taxon. Autapomorphies    distinguish    a    taxon from other related taxa. The number of autapomorphies possessed by one taxon as compared to another taxon assumed to be derived from the same common ancestor, provides a measure of anagenesis.
