Schultzes solution

(chlor-zinc iodide, CZI) A temporary stain containing a mixture of zinc dissolved in hydrochloric acid added to iodine dissolved in potassium iodide. It is used to detect the presence of cellulose in plant tissue, which it turns blue. Lignified walls stain blue-green, lignin and suberin yellow, and starch blue-black.
