Permo-Triassic

A period encompassing the Permian and Triassic periods. It is considered a single period by certain authorities, as the prevailing conditions make it difficult to draw a boundary between the rocks of the Permian and Triassic. Intense earth movements and a period of mountain building and volcanic activity occurred resulting in the extinction of many groups of organisms and the appearance of new forms.
