The offspring (the second Filial generation) produced by selfing the *F1 generation , or allowing them to breed among themselves. Provided that a characteristic is governed by simple Mendelian genes, it is in the F2 that Mendelian ratios, such as 3:1, 9:3:3:1, become apparent (see monohybrid , dihybrid ).
